The Lochaber area is well known for
its history and turbulent past. What you may not know is it also has some of the most
impressive, natural scenery to be found anywhere in the UK. What makes the Fort William
and Lochaber area very special is when history and scenery combine to produce stunning
views where historical events occurred. Even without Man's involvement, Mother
Nature is still at work here, producing rocky peaks and cascading waterfalls; shaping
beautiful deep lochs and sparkling clear rivers; building silvery white, sandy beaches on
Atlantic shores with islands on the horizon. It's endless!
Add to all this our amazing variety of
weather patterns and you have an area of the West Highlands where every hour is different,
never mind the seasons! It's true that our rainfall is often high but without the rain the
land would not be so lush and green - something which all visitors comment on - the
waterfalls and streams would not occur and you would not experience the diverse changes
which are a regular part of life here. Any day of the year may begin misty and grey or
perhaps clear and bright, but later things might change to produce something different.
After a rainy period, the clarity of the air is amazing - mountains and distant
views are rendered so sharp.
